Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 10, 2026

This privacy policy is applicable to the Critter Counter app (hereinafter referred to as "Application") for mobile devices, which was developed by Chris Spurlock (hereinafter referred to as "Service Provider") as a Free service. This service is provided "AS IS".

What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?

The Application acquires the information you supply when you sign in to the Application. Sign-in is optional — you can use the Application in guest mode, in which case all data stays on your device.

When you sign in, the Service Provider uses your email address solely for account authentication and important service notifications (such as security alerts or material changes to this policy). The Service Provider does not send marketing emails.

What information does the Application collect automatically?

When the Application crashes, Firebase Crashlytics may collect technical diagnostic information (device model, operating system version, and crash details) to help diagnose and fix the issue. This information is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you across other applications or websites.

Does the Application collect precise real-time location information?

This Application collects your device's location while you are actively recording a walk. Location data is used in the following ways:

The Application requests "While Using" location permission only and does not collect location in the background.

Does the Application use Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies?

The Application does not use Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to process your data or provide features.

Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by the Application?

When you are signed in, your walk data (precise location coordinates and timestamps) is stored with Supabase (supabase.com), a third-party database provider, in order to provide sync across your devices. Crash diagnostic information is processed by Firebase Crashlytics (a Google service) for the sole purpose of identifying and fixing application crashes.

The Service Provider may disclose information collected by the Application:

What are my opt-out rights?

You can stop all collection of information by the Application by uninstalling it. You may use the standard uninstall processes available on your device. You can also delete your account and all associated server-side data at any time from within the Application's Settings screen.

Data retention and managing your information

The Service Provider will retain your walk data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account using the in-app deletion feature, all server-side data (account information, walks, and sightings) is removed immediately. Database backups maintained by Supabase for disaster recovery may be retained for up to 30 days.

If you'd like to request data deletion outside the in-app flow, please contact thefirstzion@gmail.com.

Your Rights Under GDPR

If you are located in the European Union, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

To exercise any of these rights, please contact the Service Provider at thefirstzion@gmail.com.

Children's Privacy

The Service Provider does not use the Application to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13. The Service Provider does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. If you have reason to believe that a child has provided personally identifiable information to the Service Provider, please contact them at thefirstzion@gmail.com so that the necessary actions can be taken. You must also be at least 16 years of age to consent to the processing of your personally identifiable information in your country (in some countries we may allow your parent or guardian to do so on your behalf).

Security

The Service Provider is concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. Walk data stored with Supabase is transmitted over HTTPS and encrypted at rest. Access to the data is restricted by row-level security policies that ensure each user can only read or modify their own walks. Please be aware that, although we endeavor to provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The Service Provider will notify you of any changes by updating this page. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.

Consent

By using the Application, you are giving your consent to the Service Provider's processing of your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended.

If you have any questions regarding privacy while using the Application, or have questions about the practices, please contact the Service Provider via email at thefirstzion@gmail.com.
